You wrecked the Harbourmaster's boat on the rocks.

He could have reported you. Instead, he wrote your name in his ledger, handed you a leaking little boat and made you an offer you could hardly refuse.

Now you fish his waters and repay your debt season by season. His demands rise over time — and if you cannot pay, things only get more expensive.

There is only one way out: come back with a profitable haul, keep your boat running and clear the debt before the rising payments swallow everything you earn.

The waters near the harbour are safer. Venture farther out and the catches become more valuable — but the journey becomes more dangerous.

Storms increase the risk of tearing your nets, long voyages wear down your boat, and random events can derail your plans at any time.

The fishing grounds also react to your choices. Fish the same area too often and its stock declines, reducing your catches. Leave it alone for a while and the population can recover. Rotate your fishing grounds wisely to get more from them in the long run.

If your boat sinks, you lose your cargo and have to start again with a basic boat. On Hardcore, a trip into the Bermuda Triangle can even bring your entire run to an end.

EVERY RUN MOVES YOU FORWARD.

Even a failed attempt is not wasted. Permanent bonuses make future runs easier, your skill improves as you play, and your Almanac fills with discovered species and special catches.

Complete rows in the Almanac to unlock further permanent bonuses and gradually open up more possibilities for future runs.

BUY BACK YOUR FREEDOM.

Every seasonal payment to the Harbourmaster reduces your remaining debt. If you have had a profitable season, you can make extra repayments in the harbour — or keep the gold and invest it in a better boat instead.

Once the debt is fully repaid, you are free. But your run does not have to end there: keep sailing and push for a higher score, or begin a new run on the next Prestige level.

Higher Prestige levels demand larger payments, but your score is also weighted more heavily.
